How we calculate this
We assume one follow-up when the invoice goes overdue plus one per week after that, at about 25 minutes each — the time it takes to check whether payment arrived, draft the email, and rewrite it so it doesn't sound too pushy. We add ~10 minutes a week of status-checking, price the time at your hourly rate, and add a cash-flow cost of 8% APR on the money you're floating. If anything, it's conservative: it doesn't count the mental load, and industry research finds 29% of freelance invoices are paid late and 9% are never paid at all.
